THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!
Thanks to everyone who came out and showed some love to the Ironman athletes as they stopped by Bike Special Needs. Without all those volunteers, it couldn’t have happened! It’s our prayer that your “work” on Sunday was not work, but worship and service. All the times that the athletes thanked you for your work, that sense of accomplishment you felt at sending an athlete on their way, the sympathy and love you felt for athletes who were having a hard time on the course, all of that is an experience of the divine! Keep it with you all year, and get ready to come back for more! we hope to do Bike Special Needs again next year – but if that’s not soon enough, watch our Facebook page for info on the Merry Christmas 5K and homeless benefit on December 21st!

Words cannot express the range and depths of our emotions after the tragedy at the Boston Marathon. But in prayer we can begin to find a way forward through violence and death. This is why we’re inviting everyone who’s around to come to Fleet Feet at 2239 Taylorsville Rd on Wednesday at 6:00 for a time of prayer that begins with words and fellowship and continues in a group run at 6:30.
On Monday Evening we will be holding a community wide Run to Unite Louisville’s Endurance athletic community in light of the Upcoming Derby Marathon. Runners or cyclists can meet at KEN COMBS RUNNING SHOP on Shelbyville Rd. at 6pm if they would like to run the whole route (roughly 5 miles) or they can meet at BLUE MILE in the Highlands for a 3 mile light run. The route will take runners from KEN COMBS through Seneca to FLEET FEET SPORTS and then up Bardstown Rd. to BLUE MILE from where we will end at FLANNIGAN’S ALE HOUSE on BAXTER AVE.
***ALL PROCEEDS FROM FLANNIGAN’S ON MONDAY NIGHT GO TO SUPPORT THE BOSTON ATHLETES/SPECTATORS THAT WERE INJURED. SO WHETHER YOU DECIDE TO RUN OR NOT, MEET AT FLANNIGAN’S FOR A BOSTON LAGER BETWEEN 7PM AND 10PM MONDAY EVENING!

About Barren Heights: Located near Barren River Lake in south central Kentucky, the facility is run by a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, Barren Heights Christian Retreat Center, Inc. The campus was built for the primary purpose of hosting mini-vacation style retreats for families who have one or more children with a physical or developmental disability. The retreats are free for qualified families.
People have asked us why we built this place, and that is a fair question. To put it simply, we saw a need and wanted to do what we could to fill it. We have tremendous respect for parents and caretakers of children with disabilities – they are often physically taxed and emotionally drained in unique ways. We felt that those families could use a weekend getaway at a facility that was designed with their specific needs in mind. We have no hidden agenda, and simply want you and your family to consider taking advantage of this opportunity to relax, refresh and rejuvenate near the scenic Barren River Lake.
“Is the spring coming?” he said. “What is it like?”…
